  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald Chest

Miss Chip

New Kit
I have a 5 month old Mini Lop who seems to suddenly have lost all the fur from her chest. The skin doesn't look irritated or sore. Any idea what the problem could be, or what I should do about it?

I found all the fur in the bedding, so maybe it's a phantom pregnancy. She's in with a male, but the rescue centre assured me he was neutured!

You should be able to tell - if he has testicles he's not neutered and she's pregnant, if he doesn't it's just a phantom :) how long ago was he neutered - males can remain fertile up to 6 weeks after being neutered

Did they say whether she was spayed too?

Try turning your male over and looking at his genitals...if you can see two pink lumps near his tail, then he isn't neutered, and you'll have to remove him from the female as soon as possible because nesting in an actual pregnancy comes very soon before birth.

I'm sure it's probably nothing to worry about though...phantom pregnancies are very common in unspayed females

I checked his bottom a week ago to make sure it was clean and there were no pink lumps. So, must be phantom - Phew!
