  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Post neuter advice

Bluebell's Mum

Warren Scout
Bluebell was neutered yesterday and came home at 5pm. She passed 3 small poos when she got home but none since. She has eaten a reasonable amount of veggies- a cabbage leaf, coriander, 2 x strawberry leaves, some pea shoots and a small nibble of hay. Her litter tray is wet. Should I be concerned yet? Phoned vet this morning and she was not unduly concerned there were no poos overnight.

I gave her a couple of drops of oral metacam this morning and she was given injection post op for pain. I went home at lunch time and thought it might be too soon to give her more metacam as it only says twice daily on the supply I was given?

Oh I'm not usre about the oral stuff I was given none. Bobby had her shot post op, and then the following morning went back for a second. Hopefully someone will come a long soon more knowledgable.

I do remember there being a few sloppy poops in the early ohours of the morning after her op

has she been prescribed any metoclop and zantac? or get any injected yesterday? Metacam is usually given roughly every 12 hrs or it should be so like say 8 in the morning and 8 and night kinda thing. I would be fairly concerned at the lack of poo's defo should have passed something now even though it could be a bit runny/sticky just as an after effect of the GA just keep tempting her to eat but i would give your vet a wee phone.
