  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wee bit of advice needed please....

Hiya, Chris here - Kirsty's on holiday at the moment.

I've been looking after Herbie & Inca (obviously) and I'm sure Inca's problems have been on here over the months...!

She looks like she's totally fine but she's getting pretty wet underneath and her inner left back leg looks very red. It also seems incredibly thin, although, admittedly, it may just be like that all the time (she is very skinny anyway no matter how much you feed her!).

I have to keep drying her off underneath and a bit worried about the redness - although, Kirsty really takes care of them most of the time, so I've no idea if it just goes that way sometimes when she's getting wet.

For those of you who know her situation, is it a case for the vets or just keep cleaning her underneath for a couple of days until Kirsty gets back (Sat)?

As I say, she everything else is fine - eating up, acting normal, letting me pick her up and so on.

I'm probably just getting a bit paranoid since I'm a complete novice in comparison to the better half... Better to be sure, though.

Not sure on this, but do you maybe have some Sudocrem or something to put on in the meantime, until someone comes on with some good advice?

Oddly enough, I'm just off the phone to the gaffer who suggested just that! :)

She said it happens quite regularly and Sudocrem is fine for now. Will get a vets appointment for over the weekend anyway as K reckons Inca might need some antibiotics.

Thanks for the reply!
