They are very intelligent little things! And so fascinating to watch. I think they are quite high maintenance pets as they are prone to diabetes, and can slip their tale if handled incorrectly. Also like Chinchillas they need regular sandbaths. They need a large cage and lots of things for them to gnaw on. Also time to run and play out of their cage too. They are highly social animals who love to live in groups. Although my two were from a large rescue and they ended up having young, there babies were re-homed and these two were left and i fell in love with them so adopted them!
I have had them just over 2 weeks now, but have worked with degu's at a rescue for nearly a year.
