Leg breaks

hurricanhoney

Wise Old Thumper
If a bunny broke its leg in the nest, would it heal on its own without treatment and would the bunny be in pain. Sorry about the weird question. Thanks

It would depend on what bone(s) were broken and what type of fracture it was.

Healing may occur but the effected limb may be permanently deformed and may result in more problems in the longterm.

Any break will cause pain.

Veterinary attention should ALWAYS be sought.

when you say ' in the nest' is this a very young baby bunny still with mother? and are you sure in that case that the leg is broken and not a deformed splay leg? (which will also need to see a vet)

Not going into too much detail its a bun being sold in my village. The mum stood on it. It hasn't got much flexion in the hock and a bony lump there but gets around ok but is lame its only six weeks. :(
