  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Claws

Hi, how do you mean, cant trim them? Is Selina struggling or cant you see the quick?

Best bet is to get the vet to show you.

Good luck:D

I can see the quick - or I could when she used to let me do them but now she struggles too much. I tried going to the vets and she made it look really easy :S but can't afford to keep going back at £7.50 a time.

Have you got someone who can help you? So one person holds bunny and the other clips? Sometimes just getting bun in the correct position is all it takes. I find tipping bun back into my tummy or the crook of my arm/elbow works very well for one of my buns, and the other lets me pick up her paws one at a time when she is sat on my lap. Different buns go with different positions sometimes.

Maybe they don't need doing? I never trim my buns nails and the vet checks them when they have their myxi jabs and says they are fine.

I haven't all the time but I'm thinking of cheekily asking Lillian if she will help me haah

This is only really the case for buns who spend a lot of time outdoors on hard surfaces and doing a lot of digging. Buns on soft grass and house buns do need their nails doing every few months usually.
