Insurance Claim

Nicola1

Wise Old Thumper
Jasmine and Daphne have been to the emergency vets (see thread http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=231748) and they are both insured.

Only problem is - I have them covered as a boy and a girl, named Ben and Penny, because I was told by the :censored: useless pet shop I rescued them from that they were male/female. And I never had time to change it, not expected to have to claim so soon

Will this affect my insurance claim? Mis-sexed rabbits are common after all. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Should I ring PetPlan tomorrow and just tell them I found out they are 2 girls, and then send off the claim form without mentioning it, or should I ring tomorrow and explain the entire situation?

I've not seen your other thread I'll look at that in a month but I'd definitely come clean with petplan, like you say Missexing is very common and when you initially told them they were boy and girl you did it in good faith. I'm sure they'll have come across this before. I hope your two girls are going to be ok and better soon x

Thanks xxx I mean, all the dates are there, so it'll look more dodgy if I don't tell them the full story. And it should be on my vet records hopefully.

I don't know about pet insurance but I used to work in motor claims before becoming a teacher. All I know is they have this uncanny way of finding things out and getting to the bottom of things and finding loopholes and asking questions!!! I don't want to give you any advice because I'm scared of saying the wrong thing but, if it were me, I'd just tell them the truth and see what they say, but you will run the risk of them making the policy for one bun nul and void. What about discussing with the vet before you do anything?

The emergency vet were so unhelpful  seemed to look down on me for asking about insurance and payments

I just can't think of how you'll get round this. Two spays and they're listed as a boy and a girl on the insurance, and a very unhelpful vet. Sorry I'm no help, just sympathising with you. I really must get my two insured. Can you insure piggies?

No you can't insure piggies (was that piggie question of the day? ;)) Mine haven't been that expensive though, they don't need vaccinating or anything, they have had an URI and mites, but each time it was £50 for all 4, which is a bit pricey but cheaper than rabbits! I know :( the insurance man spelt my name wrong as well  even though I spelt it phonetically.

Poor you. I haven't insured mine YET but I remember the time I had to take Lola to the emergency vet. I paid £125 for a rabbit with wind!!!!

Dread to think what your bill is!

How are they anyway? Any poo from Jasmine?

What do you think of Connie for a longhaired black guineapig? (2nd guineapig question of the day!)

Connie is a gorgeous name :D can't wait to see your piggies!!

£574 so far

No poo :( starting to worry a little bit. Her wound is awful

i really hope they dont use your not telling them straight away as an excuse not to pay up :(:(

as much as i rave about petplan they are an insurance company and will get out of paying if they can.

how long have you known you have two girls instead of a boy and a girl??

The wee peep. I'll be logging on tomorrow in school for and update and telling the children all about you - we'll all be thinking about you and your girls.

Is she eating? I guess you'll be going to your own vets tomorrow then if no poo?

aww that's lovely :love: thank you! She has eaten some veg but nothing for a while now. I gave her some gut stimulant and antibiotics I bet she is in pain though

I took them to the vets on the day I got them and he told me then, about 4 weeks ago.:cry: I only have myself to blame, I've been so busy though with finishing university etc.

When Lola got spayed I got her home and she was very lethargic the next morning. I was worried and took her back to the vet and they gave her another pain killer. She perked up after a couple of hours after that. Maybe that is an idea? I'm so not an expert - everything that happens to mine is new to me - as you can see from all the questions I post!!!

Are you ok?

Well that's good if she's taking a bit of an interest. Maybe there'll be a little present for you in the morning in the form of some little brown balls. Who cares wether they're golden or not!! Night night. I'll send a word up for you!

I'll settle for lime green ones with polka dots as long as she does some! Night hun  you and your lovely buns sleep tight!

 good luck at vets tomorrow....well be thinking of you.

even thos rock hard little poops with some softpoop is a welcome sight!!

dont start with me about pet plan...i lost over half my claim thanks to them...i ended up with £245 instead of the best part of £900...and i cant get it back..the vets computer system lost half the details.....now i alays ask for a full printout statement:censored: vets found it..pet plan wriggled free as time had elapsed.....

but you should be ok as its NOW and if you explain the name and sex change details..and the vet signs off on that..then they should pay out.

good luck...sending vibes for both the girls:love:

Best ring up Petplan, they have always been very helpful on the phone

You can also get guinea pig insurance through specialist exotic animal insurers. Exotic Direct will cover them, prices are about £100 a year, with a definatly decrease if your insuring more than one small mammel (excluding rabbits). Not gone through all the policy details though so not sure what they are covering but they are partners with Petplan :D

Thank you so much :) She is nibbling a carrot now  Daphne has eaten everything in sight!

Thanks for the info about piggie insurance as well. By the time I'd insured my troop though I think it would be cheaper to just pay out at the vets! *touches wood*
