  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Damson: Keeping us on our toes! (stress. . . )

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Suspect this is only going to make sense to those who have followed Damson's story so apologies to everyone else -

But after the months of on/off/on/off with the kidney stone, then the weeks of OMG its all over with the VHD jab, and last weeks what on earth is going on with the poss adhesions - now he has decided that adhesions mean that you spend a couple of hours looking at deaths door and then magically brighten up race around, flop out and eat loads before deciding to look at deaths door again . . .

I shouldn't begrudge him as suspect he now has a tummy that hurts at certain times (before/after/during??????? eating???? - any ideas Jacks Jane??? we can't seem to find pattern to it) but if he's not careful me and OH will stress related heart attack and then where will he be????!!

Poor lad

I do suspect that his guts may go into spasm resulting in gripey colic type pain

*If* it is due to the formation of post surgical adhesions then unfortunately IME things get worse rather than better  I really wish I could give more optimistic input here

I guess all you can do is try to get his pain under control and keep him hydrated.

I suspect that this is what is happening and it is really really a shame as we thought the op. might end all of the pain/no pain/pain flucuaton . . but we live for the good times and will see how he goes and whether it stabilises or gets worse . . .

he is on metaclop three times a day and metacam low dose to keep it all ticking over . . . and I gave fluids this morning

TBH I have never found Metacam to be enough for pain control in situations like this
But you'd need to discuss that with your Vet
I hope Damson remains as comfortable as possible. This damn heat cant be helping.

He can't take bupronorphine - it just totally knocks him out!

When he is not looking at deaths door he is amazingly normal and happy and cheeky and hungry and just like Damson - we will of course monitor.

He never grinds his teeth - except in irritation at us! - or hunches or anything - just 'sits' .
