Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Routine for Dental Buns

Can you give me an idea of what you have to do to give a dental bunny a good life?

ie... do you buy special hay or pellets (Twinkle not really eating either)..
how do you get them to drink water?
are they on meds everyday and how do you do this?

Twinkle is getting fed up of meds twice a day.

Can I manage a dental bun whilst working 9am - 3pm Monday to Friday?

Thank you for any input. We are going to see the specialist today at 3.20pm

Not much help but have you tried damping the pellets to make them softer & easier for bun to eat ?

Sending you & Twinkle vibes & good luck with the specialist.

Can we have a bit more info?

Is Twinkle's problem with incisors or molars, or both?

Is there any elongation of the tooth roots?

Is there any infection or loose teeth?

It should be fine to look after a dental bun if you work those hours. Most vets will allow you to drop the bun off before work, and pick up after work. They may even suggest that you book Twinkle in for dentals at regular intervals, which is easier to plan around work.

Sorry.. I am jumping in without knowing full facts.. just stressing!

Think its elongated roots...molars.. she wont eat hay or pellets.. only grass and some veg at the moment. Wont drink water.

No sign of infection or loose teeth that I know of. Specialist has taken her off ABX so assume he doesnt think infection.

She is on maxalon and zantac at the moment which is making her comfortable (ish) but still not eating well. Will know more this afternoon - sorry am just in a panic

Santa also has elongated molar roots. They are kept in check with regular-ish dentals where the teeth are burred right back down to just above the gum - this reduces the pressure on the tooth roots so helps to minimise their overgrowth.

The other thing that seems to help her is that she has metacam daily - primarily this is for her snuffles, but at her last dental my vet found a spur growing into her cheek so it seems likely that the metacam is also helping to keep any dental pain at bay.

Santa will eat pellets (SS) but won't eat hay. The single thing that I find most helpful is to just make sure they get plenty of time grazing on grass, as this helps the teeth and Santa will eat fresh grass. If I can't get them on the grass, I make sure they either have a tray of growing grass in their run, or I get the scissors out and pick lots for them.

I don't see your working patterns being a problem; I work full time, although admittedly I am on flexible hours so it's easy for me to come into work late (e.g. 10-ish) so that I can easily get to appointments to drop them off for surgery etc.

Good luck xx

Does she just have metacam? Twinkle is on Zantac as well.

Twinkle does eat grass, but the other problem she has is excessive ceacals if she has too much fresh.... aarrgghh!! How am I gonna get the balance right where she is getting enough food?
