  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Strange behaviour by our rabbit...can you help?

New Kit
Having recently lost one to GIS, we are mildly concerned about this other Rex we have, male, 2 years old.

Last night, he came out and wandered freely about as he always does. He started lying down, full stretch, legs kicked back. It looked hilarious. But he kept doing it and moving to a new spot, then lying again.

He seems fine this morning, but I don't think he is eating. he is moving fine and feels ok, even looks well...bright eyed, etc. But not touched food. I don't know if he is chewing his hay, his huge home is full of it. It's really strange. He is a bit of a character though.

We are due to pick up his new partner this afternoon from Fat Fluffs, he can't possibly know this. Can he?!

Sounds like a bun trying to relieve gas in the tummy to me. My bun does this when he bloats. If your bun is not eating he needs to see a vet now this morning for a thorough examination and probably some pain relief and fluids at the minimum.
Were you planning on bonding him today? If he is off colour I would not be subjecting him to the stress of bonding today, it will only put additional strain on his immune system if he is already poorly. If I were you I would take him to the vet and give Fat Fluffs a call to discuss - they are a fantastic rescue and will be very cooperative i'm sure. Hope bun feels better soon x

all cleared up in a day, looks like a bit of wind!

he has been successfully bonded with a rescue rabbit, a baby uppy eared, from fat fluffs. he is liking being a big brother by the look of it.
