  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worming

Hiya

I once did a 28 day course of Panacur for my rabbits about a year ago. I was told by the vet that you won't need to worm them again unless you get a new rabbit. I forgot to ask what about boarding. My rabbits go to boarding every year so they obviously go into hutches that other rabbits have toileted in. Should I worm them again (28 day course) after they come back from boarding?

i'm not a huge fan of panacur re not sure of it's efficacy i tend to only worm if and when appropriate i'e if their is signs of EC and i tennd to use lapizole however i would take the advice of your vet. (i've done alot of reading on the subject of panacur after losing jamesey to EC and haven't found in concrete evidence that it prevents worms)

BUT i would take the advice of a VET

Its not something i have ever had to consider, but I know other people on here have panacured for 28 days after boarding just to be on the safe side. But views on panacur seem to change so quickly nowadays I don't know what the upto date view is after boarding :?
