  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wise Old Thumper
Just had confusing conversation with OH who had had conversation with nurse who was giving message from vet . . .

He thinks they said they are trying Damson with a sequestrant.

I will be seeing vet in 2 hours time but want to be prepared with background knowledge of this - anyone???

PS to be fair to OH this was over the phone whilst he was in a mtg.

A Ha . . some research suggests he meant 'questran' . . . silly me!

Sequestration is something that happens to someone's land and property - hence me latching onto it as a word - being a landscape historian and all . . just couldn't see where it fitted in with Damson's poorly tum:shock::oops::oops:

I am suspecting that it all comes from the same root - as all meanings seem to relate to binding or unbinding something to something else. (questran binds something in the gut; sequestered iron I think unbinds, and sequestration is the confiscation (unbinding) of property and land from someone.

Oooh - aren't words fascinating!!!

Questran is supposed to help absorb dangerous toxins in the bunnys gut when they are in stasis. My OH takes it to help keep his cholestral down.

Thank you! And do you have as much trouble trying to syringe it into your OH as I do syringing it into Damson:shock:

Fortunately no, but I know he hates it so I imagine it tastes pretty horrible.
