Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxi jab side effects?

Daisyd

Young Bun
Hey,

My bunny Cassini, 3 months old, had her myxi jab last week. Last night I felt a lump under her skin. I'm not 100% sure but I think it may be where the injection was given.

It is a little smaller than a smartie and pink to look at, but doesn't seem to bother her. Its quite hard and doesn't seem pussy, but I guess you can't tell whats under there just by prodding at it. Just wondering if its normal or if I should be worried?

Shes going back for VHD next weds.

She is very bright and normal otherwise.

A local skin reaction can occur and should resolve without a problem

This is copied from the vaccine data information sheet:

'Following vaccination a small (≤ 3.5 mm) circumscribed and transient swelling may develop at the site of injection approximately 1 week post vaccination and disappear by approximately 25 days.'

Thanks - thats great. Vet didn't mention it so thought I'd better check. I'll keep an eye in her but you've put my mind at rest - v.gratefull!!
