  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Weight of baby rabbit

ctw

New Kit
i've had to hand rear a baby rabbit it was taken at about 10 days after the rest of the litter was killed, its eating well, but no where near what online guides say, but its stomach is getting very full after eating, i've spent alot of nights up all night worried it has bloat, even though its weeing and running around and tummy is back down the following morning.

However i read online that a rabbit should be putting on about 1/4 a Oz a day, which is 7 grams, i weighed it tuesday and it was 100 g's and now its roughly 105/110g's so i'm really worried its not eating enough, even though when it does, it seems to get full

As long as baby is gaining weight all the time, albeit slowly, then I would not worry. Trying to feed him/her more than he/she can cope with is likely to do more harm than good.

Good luck with him/her :)
