  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hiya all, i am soooo pleased to say Toto is well and truly back i am so chuffed and happy he made it through an awful week where i thought he was on deaths door bless him, he has fought through as tiny as he is bless, i have noticed though while he has been pooly he has a bald patch behind one ear:wave::) on neck and his fur on ears is thinning?any ideas is it cause he been run down is it mites? he is due back to vets next week for follow up check up i will mention it to them but wondered if i needed be treating him for anything for it i.e is it mites? no bald patches anywhere else just there he does have odd white dot of dandruff but not that much to notice without really searching xxx

there's quite a few things it could be, mites, the stress of being ill, a fungal infection, dry skin... other things as well. perhaps it might help if you post a picture of it as the condition of the skin might help diagnose, but I think that a vet trip will be the best idea. I dont think its an emergency (although disregard this if somebody tells you that it is urgent as they'll probably know more than me!) but I would try and get him seen on Monday if you can, as whatever it is it is probably very uncomfortable for him.

There are over the counter treatments but a vet would need to diagnose the problem first or it might have an adverse effect, as two different problems might need opposite treatments.

Could be mites due to the stress of being poorly. I'd take him back early as the vet can check under the micoscope after a skin scraping. :)

mites or even just stress - OR could be result of having injections or drip if he has had these??? They shave the ear to put a drip in.
