Mortar and Pestle

Sky-O

Wise Old Thumper
I need one to crush Badger's medication. The last one I got was far too big and the medication all just got stuck and none came out, so I need a teeny, teeny tiny one.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm about to google, but if anyone has a good place to buy, that would be awesome thanks :)

Nope, we tried one of those (amongst a gazillion other possible things that may work ), but the problem is its not an actual tablet. I have to empty the contents of a capsule and mix it with glycerol, but the contents of the capsule is funny little bead things, and when they mix with glycerol they don't dissolve or anything, just stay as beads, so I can't use it like that because the dose would never be accurate (either too little, or too much).

My vets won't do it, and the specialist vets will, but they are nearly an hour away. I'm happy to travel, but if I can do it myself then that's FAR easier.

They use a mortar and pestle. I've just found some super small ones that should work (although, when I searched for UK sites only, it gave me a host of US ones, which is NOT helpful ), so I'm trying to now find one in the UK that is teeny tiny.

What about emptying the contents of the capsule onto a square of kitchen towel, fold over then crush using a rolling pin :?

Hah, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought "Those are original rabbit names!"

its the metaclop my vet prescribes.. its fun getting it down to 8ths :lol: even 1/4's would be a help tho..

*has everything crossed Alvin's new strict diet means no more pill cutting*

We tried that too, it also didn't work. The beads didn't crush, they sort of just became long and flat and still all joined together  I did spend absolutely ages trying different things, and now have a ridiculous amount of tools I won't ever use

Have you been using a molcajete or a bog-standard mortar and pestle? A molcajete has a rough surface and looks like this

And is a pain in the backside for getting things out of. A granite or marble mortar and pestle will have a smooth surface and you don't loose as many bits in it! If you have one of the big Asian supermarkets near you, try that as they sell them so much cheaper. Marble tends to be cheaper but I find granite more helpful for crushing, although it is much heavier.

My marble one I got from an Asian supermarket and my granite one from ebay. :)

Oooooooooooh, well, it was called a mortar and pestle, but maybe they don't knwo the difference :p

I don't know of an Asian Supermarket, to be honest, but granite or marble I could probably do.

Thank you so much!

I was trying to find a link to the one I bought from Tesco, but can't find it. *goes to look at Donna's link*
