  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

require your bun to have a 'socialisation day' at the surgery before their neutering? I just rang mine to enquire about getting Frodo neutered and was informed about this - it involves dropping Frodo off for the day just so the nurses can see how he is at being handled and if he gets too stressed - and it doesnt cost any extra!:rabbit2:

Can't say as I see the point really. My buns would be stressed being in any place outside their territory so you would be stressing it twice. :?

Seems odd... when I had my buns spayed they had an appointment first to give them a health check. I would have expected particular nervousness etc to be noted then. :?

I've never heard of that, might be good for dogs and cats maybe but not rabbits who get too stressed too easily. My vets just do pre op checks the morning of the op to check the bunny is healthy and has eaten and drank normally.

That sounds a bit pointless. If they want to know, they could go through a questionnaire with you or something. Ours don't do that, they just do pre op checks the morning of the neuter (or prior to that if there may be a problem with the GA).

I always write a blurb about my bunnies and the important things they need to know and attach it to the carry case. The vets have said this is very helpful because it tells them areas to be aware of, things like best ways to handle certain buns, if the bun is nippy, or likes nose rubs, or has any health issues, or if they come with a bonded mate and I also put any relevant info for the bonded mate too.
