Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I'm sorry, I haven't read your other thread so can not comment on this update accurately, but if you are concerned about your bun's recovery then yes you must take him back to the vet for further treatment. The pain meds sound rather low in dosage? But I don't know how big or how old your bunny is. Sometimes getting over tummy problems can take time... bun needs time to get everything going again, you just need to press on with syringe feeds and tempting bun to eat by themselves. Fluids are very important if bun is not eating properly and there are stomach issues. I'm sorry I can not help further as I do not know enough about your bun. Your vet will help you today i'm sure. Good luck :)

It all started sunday we had them a week they were 7 1/2 weeks when brought home two dwarf lops been fine all week in new home eating and pooping fine etc, then sunday black one toto stopped eating huddled in corner, got him to vets monday morning said he needed to be admitted, they gave injection on painkiller and two fluid injections in abdomen, also took bloodt test to see how pooly he was she said levels were ok, took him home tue with recovery and told to keep up with fluids, no better still not eating and by wed no poo either tummy got swollen went back vets wed and asked for this gut stimulant, gave him that wed night lots of poo and watery poo some dropping were solid wet and some watery, but thought great a good clear out, carried on with recovery syringe feeding and water no better huddled in corner on heat pad, went back vets yesterday for pain killer as i thought he was in pain tummy still little bloated, last night little poo had to be cleaned away though as was stuck, and he ate bit of carrot, but he just not getting much better hope that helps with history of past week just so worried and i have become so attached to him in two weeks its unreal xxxxx

Oh dear, little buns sound like they might have been a bit too young to leave mum and may have a rather immature immune system and gut flora at this stage without necessary antibodies from mum's milk etc. The stress of a new environment can really knock a bun for six, stress can be delayed in buns. Your vet sounds like they are doing as much as they can... I think if you are still concerned pop them back again today. Hope he can get well soon. :)

ETA I just wonder if your vet would now consider admitting your poorly bun for more intensive treatment and care? Baby buns are so vulnerable it might be the next best step.

bump can anyone else advice of next step for Toto sorry to be a pain but this site has kept me going all week thanks i am an emotional wreck about Toto xxxxxx:love::love:

where are you??

The mucus is a very bad sign usually and i suspect the little one is really struggling despite your really trying so hard. Do you know if your vet is a rabbit specialist?
I just ask in case the bun has a specific problem that happened to one of my young ones and my (then) vet did not realise and was not sufficiently experienced with small buns.

If you can post where you are there may be someone nearby who has a rabbit expert vet that can help. . . it does sound like his gut flora just hasn't established - or of it has it has been wiped out by something.

Though I AM NOT A VET so this is guessing.

There are supplements that can be given.

The other thing that can sometimes be done to get things working again is to feed the caecal pellets of an adult healthy bun as they contain gut flora. However . . . first get your adult bun . . .

hey hun, please see if your vet can admit Toto! I think it sounds fairly urgent and I would hate for anything to happen to him. Also consider Petplan pet insurance, it would not apply for now but if anything happens later on its always good not to have to balance the cost vs worrying about their health. I am very tightly pushed financially but you can never be too cautious when it comes to your rabbits, if mine was the same as yours is I would be getting him to the vets asap and ensuring he stays there until he is better! The money will be worth it when you have a healthy bunny and arent having to constantly worry if you are doing the right thing xx
