  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

grunty noise

hi, My mini lop Isabella has been making a grunty noise this morning, she eating and drinking fine, doesn't seem to be bothering her. Any suggestions??

Is she spayed ?

If not it is probably hormonal behaviour.

If it's a 'snuffle' rather than a 'grunt' that's indicative of a possible Respiratory Tract problem and a Vet consult would be needed.

hi, thanks for replying so quickly. yes she is spayed but her husbun died a few weeks ago, yesterday I got a rescue rabbit male to replace him. Harvey, the new bunny is adult, male and neutered. he is in separate hutch but when i was introducing them this morning Isabella was grunting. Do you think this is a good sign? will be following forum advice regarding bonding, so only saying hello this morning.

My lop often grunts if me or anything else is in his blind spot, and sometimes he just grunts! As Jane says as long as its a grunt rather than a snuffle its fine, and probably directed at your other rabbit. Don't think it is aggressive, just a warning to move.

Bailey's a mini lop female, she isnt spayed, and she grunts all the time, its a hormonal thing but she also grunts if shes happy to see me, so id say shes ether feeling hormonal, happy or both! x
