Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffles back again, quarantine or not? :(

I can't believe it Freeda has got snuffles again:(. She's sneezing and has some white discharge in her nose (not alot tho), I've started her on Baytril until i get to the vets tomorrow. Should i keep her in her hutch or bring her in? She lives on her own as she hasn't been spayed yet (was taking her in a few weeks time),but all my other buns go up to her hutch and sniff her I don't want them to get it either.
Any ideas?

I'm sorry no one has replied to this post :( How is Freeda doing?

A lot of buns with snuffles infections are able to live quite happily with their bonded partners, without the other bun getting any infection. The reason being that most buns carry the bacteria causing infection in their respiratory airways anyway but populations and infection is prevented by a healthy immune system. It's only when bun is immune compromised and the respiratory passages damaged/inflammed that infection can set in and cause a snuffles infection. Therefore, provided the other buns coming up to sniff her are in good health otherwise you do not need to worry.

I hope that Freeda's treatment is successful and that the vet perhaps offers a little more than baytril to really knock this infection on the head. Some members have found the use of stronger antibiotics if baytril is unsuccessful more effective, and also the use of bisolvon, metacam and sometimes a nebuliser for bad infections. Good luck :)

:( poor you. yeah I've heard snuffles isnt necessarily contagious. my piggies had it and only 2 of them were ill. sending lots of vibes for Freeda xx
