  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Charlie under the weather - constipation?

My five year old boy has recently become rather sad lately, I'm pretty sure he's having a bit of trouble passing droppings. The day before yesterday he was just fine. Yesterday however he didn't touch his dry food (which is really odd for him) and he looked rather miserable. He's been running about the garden eating grass and dandelions; still seems to have a general interest for things but I'm concerned as the only droppings i've seen have been minimal and small and dry. Not long ago he did pass some soft sticky droppings but this is the first for a couple of days. He's a just had a nibble at some dry food also which sounds promising.....

If his condition does not improve i shall pop to ther vets once again, been there a lot lately! It never rains but pours!

If anyone has any advice or any tips to help please let me know i would be extremely grateful.

Charlies looking a lot brighter now, thanks for all your advise and help with him xxx

I didn't see your thread earlier but I'm glad Charlie seems better now. You will need to keep an eye on him because it sounds like his gut had slowed down it can take some time to recover fully so if he stops eating or pooing again you will need to take him along to a vet xx

Is he eating normally now? It sounds to me like he might be getting spurs, as those are the first signs that my boys need doing again. Keep a very close eye on him and take him to the vet if you're at all worried. :)

Thanks, yeah he's his normal self now thank God:) bounding around the garden and loving his cuddles again. Such a relief! I'm glad i'm not the only one who worries so much about their rabbits. I never mention anything at work to my colleagues or to my friends anymore when i'm worrying about them coz I think they think i'm a complete freak. If it's not worry over a person or a dog then they don't seem to think it's a big deal. I'm really grateful for these forums!! Thank you people x
