Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Diet deficient?

JoF

Young Bun
Hi all,

My 8-year-old rabbit has started behaving strangely, eating his poops (not just the special ones), licking the floor of his run, and peeing on the floor of the run rather than in his basket. He is also rocking and panting. Do you think he's OK? Could he be missing something in his diet? I'm a bit worried about him because he's a little old fella, but I know that on their own these things are probably not that strange. He's just started doing them all at once!

Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

You need to take him to a Vet

I hope that when you say he is 'panting' you dont mean that he's breathing with his mouth open ? If so that is an extremely serious symptom and he needs Veterinary attention now, even if he is still eating and pooing OK.

The symptoms you describe could all point towards pain, possibly dental. So again I would advise you to get him checked over by a Vet ASAP.

Well he's OK thank goodness, no major problems. But he is pretty old, so he might just be acting a little strange because of this (or because the weathers getting better). If he wants to be eccentric that's OK with me!
