Maturity rates and neutering q's for French Lop

New Kit
Hi everyone, well I got my 15wk old french lop buck the other day-he's a black otter and is so big already-his feet are hhhuuuugggeee! We've named him Teddy as he's like a big soft bear.

Anyway I was wondering if larger breeds reach maturity later than smaller breeds and when larger breeds can get neutered? My vet says they neuter from 4-5months but I was just wondeing.

I'm wanting to get him paired up with my spayed English Spot so I'm keen to get him neutered as soon as possible, is bonding him before neutering now a big no no incase his hormones kick in?

Thanks alot
Kayleigh

Yes bonding before neutering really isn't advisable, certainly not if she isn't spayed (you'll have babies before you know it!) and even if she is spayed he will either pester her now or when his hormones kick in at which point you may need to separate and rebond - so it's best just to wait and bond once both are neutered.

As far as i'm aware all breeds reach puberty at the same time. Males can be castrated as soon as the testicles appear, usually 12wks+ but it is up to your vet really at which age they feel comfortable operating.

Teddy, meet Teddy! ;)

Male French lops reach sexual maturity at 12-16 weeks. As soon as his testicles drop they can be chopped! ;)

He won't stop growing until he's 14/16 months.

....now the important part......Where on earth are the pictures of your beautiful boy?!! ;)

Hiya, yeah she's a spayed English Spot. I tried bonding her with my minilop boys and one of them took to her and the other (the dominant of the pair) took a real dislike to her despite my efforts and just wouldn't accept her. She looks so lonely sitting by hersekf, can't wait for her to have a friend. Whenever she's freeranging in the garden she just goes and sits by my mini's run staring at them through the mesh, poor love.

I'll have a peek to see if his bits have dropped and get him in for the chop as soon as they are. And you're right, pictures definitely need to shown off!:D

Thanks
