Bad News for Topsy/Daisy Need Millions of Vibes

happybunny22000

Warren Veteran
I now dont know which one is ill. I tried to pick up the not ill one and it kicked and scratched....thats what oopsy does.....so either they've chnaged personalities or I was right first time and this is my baby topsy :(

First time I've spoken to the vets was today. Tuesday I spoke to the nurse

I was right the other day, the receptionist was wrong...my baby should have been on rimadyl....that means shes been in pain all week since tuesday/wednesday when it wore off....for that I'll get them!!!! But first priority is my baby

The vet said that the xray showed nothing wrong with her teeth but at the very very very back of her mouth past her teeth was swelling, and behind the eye is swelling causing the eye to produde a bit and her 3rd eyelid! She says its more than likely to be an abscess caused by her chewing something it sticking up causing an infection, bacteria and an absess. Because shes a rabbit and not a dog or cat its harder and so they cant lance it.

Vets dont do MRIs  I learnt today!

Shes prescribed me the rimadyl now and more baytril and said to come back on monday....that theres little they can do if the antibiotics dont work. She said we could x ray again and see if theres been any change and decide if its worth trying to....lance it or something.

I just want my baby healthy

:cry::cry::cry:

Oh no I am sorry it is not better news, but at least you have the answers you need now.

I would suggest trying different antibiotics if the baytril doesn't work. There are lots of others you can try before admitting defeat :)

Sending millions of vibes xxx

Poor Bun

Did you ask about the Metronidazole ?

If your Vet is not able to operate could you ask for a referal to a specialist to see if they can help ?

ive aksed for her details to be passed to the place in yorkshire shes geting back to me with costings/.....Im going to ring another vets tomorrow to ask about that Jane...I couldnt remember the name

she was australian and lovely

she said that batril was it :?
and that metacam was the same....

she said that other things could cause inside issues ...dont quote me...some internal organ which could be fatal :(

I cant have her in pain her chin is so sos so bad
alot of hair has gone now, and the rest is soaked...so bad it went through my jumper....
im devestated because shes still eating and playing etc despite being in constant pain :cry:

i had a bunny with an abscess behind her eye. sadly i did lose her in the end as the abscess came back but there is much more you can try, althougyh a serious condition, so please don't give up hope.
firstly get a second opinion and there are many different drugs to try. as jane said Metronidazole is said to be good and Zithromax for unoperable abscesses. Baytril did no good what so ever for my bunny and i do urge you to try something else. Pain relief is also essential and lots of nice soft foods incase it hurts her when she chews.
My bunny had her eye removed to get the abscess out and came through the op without any problems. She managed just fine without the eye and lived happily for a further 6 months. sadly the abscess came back and couldn't be controlled.
i think you should try and find a specialist. sadly i didn't have one close enough to me but my vet spoke with frances harcourt brown who gave us alot of help.
if you need anymore help please feel free to pm me

oh no ..im so sorry ..:(

please dont give up without trying other antibiotics ..

your vet is right in one respect ..Baytril is the only one liscenced for rabbits ...but loads of vets atround the country prescribe others without adverse side effects .

did you ask your vet to fax Harcourt Brown for advice?

yes, she sd they charge a fee but would look into it for me, theres anotrher vets closer, I'll ring them tomorrow. usually mine are better than them, although they were cheaper at neuturing Whiskey...prices since have gone up.

Within reason, price is no object

I want my baby back :cry::cry::cry:

Will ask for the M.........

and will ask other vets for their thoughts

if it helped id have her eye removed....she seems so normal....now I think its oopsy...I feel worse because of that!!!!!!!! Thats the last time I get twins!!!!!!!!

I wont give up on her! Even if I have to change my degree to vetnary medicine!

Oh bless her, I am so sorry :cry::cry:

Like bunny mad lisa has suggested, I would definitely ask about trying Zithromax for her - even though it is unlicenced I would ask them to look into it further for you.

Lots & lots of vibes for your poorly girl - I'll be thinking about her xxxx

could she also now have horners syndrome?

If the branch of the facial nerve that passes through the middle ear is damaged it can cause a drooping lip and ear, drooling and a decreased or no eye blink reflex. If the cranial nerves CN III, IV or VI are damaged, Horner's Syndrome results. Horner's Syndrome is characterized by a drooping eyelid, sunken eye and relaxed third eyelid (where it stays "up" over the corner of the eye and can't retract) and a pupil that is more constricted than in the other eye. In some cases the eye becomes very dry because of loss of the ability to blink and replenish the eye with tears or because of damage to the nerves affecting the tear duct. Occasionally, the drooping eye and ear from facial nerve damage might mimic a mild head tilt. However there is NO loss of balance.

shes booked in with the rabbt specialist at my vets, hes the rabbit man, made a point of requesting him as its his they all ask for advice from.
im just so so so so worried :(
