Rabbits in? RE volcanic Cloud

We've worked out how to bring all ours in if we have to. Anyone else looking at contingency plans?

The cloud has seemed to have gone over us now (just out side Edinburgh). Well I can see blue sky and the clouds are now white:lol:
Never really affected bunnies, it stayed in the sky for us:)

That's lucky vee-jay.

They were talking about it descending, in which case that, in my eyes, would be a problem for my bunnies because of things like the grittiness and how it can affect lungs. I'm in the South East UK so it may come down around us somewhere. If it stays in the air then its all good.

I live near Gatwick, at the moment I can still hear the planes taking off and the sky is quite bright and sunny. Will be keeping an eye on it though. Luckily I work from home, so can bring them inside in an instant if I need to.

 I hadn't even heard of this (I seem to live under a rock as far as news is concerned!!:lol:)

Is it likely to affect us oop north?

If so, then yes i'll be bringing the babies in...:?

They are stopping flights between midday and 6pm tonight as that is when they have estimated the ash clouds will be crossing the UK.
The concern is whilst the planes are in the sky the ash could be pulled into the engines and cause problems and engine failure so we are all fine down on the ground.
It 's unlikely that it will come down to ground level.

I've heard on the news this morning that it will not descend low enough in the UK to affect people & animals unless it rains.......but they neglected to exand on exactly what would happen or what to do if it rained :?

Listening to a specialist they were talking to on This Morning (I know ), he said it is a real possibility, so whilst right now its in the air, it may not stay there.

How much of an issue will it be for bunnies/animals if it does come down to ground level?

My two are inside but Tracy at RNGP is local to me so I could take some bunnies in for her if she needed me to. Not sure how much on an over-reaction it is though?

They were saying about staying in and keeping windows closed and such, and about how it will be potentially problematical for people with asthma. So I have no idea how much of a genuine risk this could be to bunnies/animals in general but definitely those with respiratory issues may have a problem. My thinking was that their respiratory systems are pretty fragile and small so would be harder hit than people's lungs. No one on any news has said anything about bringing animals or anything inside yet, and I would presume they would if it came to that.

Its all a bit 'this might happen' type thing, which doesn't help very much

I guess it depends what the ash is made of, if its silicious you would think it could be dangerous to inhale it because of silicosis (similar to asbestosis). But we've had a few clouds of Sahara dust land on us in the last few years that would have been similar, did everyone have their buns in for that, were there any problems?

Think they said it was about 6km to 8km up in the atmosphere hence why its affecting planes. Hopefully the sun will keep shinning and the wind will blow it elsewhere!

I'd like it to hang around until tomorrow so I can have another day off :lol:
