  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just want to say I am so sorry you have lost your bunny.

Sounds like although he had a short life he had a life full of love xx

I doubt it was VHD, more likely he did knock his eye/face or get it caught on something. But sometimes accidents happen and we cant prevent them all. Sounds like he had a lovely time with you, so sorry you lost him xx

Hi, really sorry to hear about your little bunn, heres abit of info on Vhd -
Baby rabbits, under about 8 weeks of age, don’t get ill at all. But VHD usually kills older rabbits. They may just die suddenly, with no sign of anything wrong. Or they may get very ill before dying, have difficulty breathing, go off their food, have a high temperature and bleed from the nose and bottom. -

Hope this helps you to work out what happend x

So very sorry to hear about your sudden loss of your lovely little bun :(

There are several things that could have caused those sudden symptoms and his passing. VHD although possible doesn't quite fit. It sounds more like he had a sudden little bleed in his head for whatever reason, i'm very sorry.
