I did post this in the other thread, but really keen to get some advice so thought I would start a new one. This is the other thread.

Spoke to breeder this morning and his litter mates left friday and saturday!! He is all on his tod and only 6 weeks old!

I need to go and get him, rather him be with me than there!

Advice welcome please on best way to help him settle in his new home and what food to give him, being only 6 weeks old!!

He has a 5ftx2ftx2ft hutch waiting for him with 5x5 attached run below - I was thinking of shutting off the run for a while, dont want to freak him out with too much space!??

Thanks

Becca

It sounds like you are doing the right thing getting him.

I think you ought to shut the run off temporarily and give him a chance to get used to the hutch, get comfortable and scent mark it all etc.

Some specialist baby bunny nuggets are in order to.

6 weeks is far too young, they should be at least 8 weeks old. It is concerning that she has let all the other littermates go at such a young age and that she has not advised you suitably on food and settling him in his new housing ...

Tell me about it!! As you may have read in the other thread, I would only take him once the others hade been taken as I didnt want to be the one to take him away and I did say to the breeder that were too yound to be sent to homes, but it made no difference!

I have kept rabbits before, most of my life but not from as young as this so really want to give him a good start as I dont feel he has so far!

I am almost regreting not taking his mum too, but if she was as stressed as breeder say shes was then it may not of made any difference although I could of tried bonding them later on!

Food wise, she is feeding them charnwood mill pellets which you can only buy in 25kg sacks so I am going to wean him onto Science Selctive!

Anyone else have any advice - I know some of you are not impressed that this bun has come from a breeder but I have explained this in other threads as I have as to why I am getting a rabbit at only 6 weeks of age.

Really just want to to my best by him! :(

I would say get him. I would also agree not to let him in the run yet. If that's on grass that will need to be done gradually. If you can, take some stuff (shavings, hay) from where he currently lives and take that in the carry case and put that into his new hutch.

I wouldn't change the food until he is a bit older, just to try and minimise the stress.

I would suggest giving a snugglesafe and also a cuddly toy.

Baby came to me at roughly 3-4 weeks (found abandoned in a box with a dead litter mate) and he thrived ok, so hopefully your little man will do too.

If I can do anything at all, then you know where to find me :) I would also suggest reporting the breeder.

Thanks Tracy was hoping you would be on here to reply! :)

I havent got a snugglesafe, shall I do a rice sock??

I already got a soft toy for him and have put an igloo thing in the hutch to hopefully make him feel a bit more snug in the hutch!

Have got a cover ready cos its really windy today, hubby has been really busy modifying hutch today, bless him!

I have a snugglesafe if you want to borrow it? Actually, I have like 8  So I always have one spare.

Do you have him now? I can bring you a snugglesafe tomorrow morning if you like? I have to drop Hope and his bondmates at the vets at 8.50 and could come after that? Or come before picking them up in the afternoon?

You could also try using fleecey blankets (with the blanket stitch around the edge removed) because those are very snuggley too.

If you want my advice or anything you're always welcome to contact me :) I think with that adoption pack I sent a slip with my contact details on? You're always welcome to use them :) If not, PM me and I'll give them to you :)

Yeah he will be here shortly! If you dont mind me borrowing one that would be great thank you. The morning or afternoon would be good for me!

I an kinda going to be relying for you for advice! :)

:) Cool, I'll drop it round tomorrow morning then :) Until then you can use a rice sock, but I would suggest wrapping it in many socks to minimise the chance of him chewing the sock and finding himself sitting in rice.

That needs reheating a lot more regularly than a snugglesafe and he does need to be kept as warm as possible tonight, so you may be in for a wakeful one!
