  • Please Note - Medical Advice

    Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

    You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

    We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

    Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EC, or something else?

Hi all, had a bit of a scare with our bun Dee last Wednesday, she had been absolutley fine up until 10pm in the evening when she started to look decidely wobbly when jumping around and would also sit hunched trembling. I also noticed that she was barrel rolling on the floor particularly after she had done her usual bounding loop of the pen and she wouldn't touch her usual veg feast.Called the emergency vet within 10 minutes of noticing it and she told me that it was likely to be EC.
I said that I already had some Panacur so we immediatley started her on that, 1.5grads, within 2 hours of that administration she was back to normal, no more rolling, and eating fine.
This surprised me as I didn't expect it to work so quickly, so my questions are;

Is it normal for it to work so quickly and if so was it because we caught it quickly?
Do the symptoms sound like EC? (I'm pretty well up on bunny health but don't think i have seen a rabbit with the symptoms before)
Could it be something else more sinister?

She is now on day 6 of a 28 day course of Panacur and we are going to do the bleach/clean in week 4. She has been completely fine since this incident.

It does seem strange that she would havethe rolling episodes then react so quickly to panacur.
Im no expert, but id be keeping a close eye on bunster from now on x
