Rabbit sitting - urine looks a funny colour

Bitzy

Mama Doe
Hi all

Here I am again, rabbit sitter extraordinaire! lol

Over the last few days I've noticed that Mitzy's urine seems to be quite dark, almost orange in colour and wondered if this is normal??

She doesn't seem to drink very much but I have seen her drinking - just not very often. Could she be dehydrated? And if so, how do I get her to drink more?

Is there anything else that could be causing the dark urine?

Thanks, Jo (& Mitzy)

Lots of foods can cause a orangey pigmentation to the urine. Eg. dandelion leaves. I also used to find that timothy hay did this to my bunnies, so their urine was orangey in colour most of the time.

Bunnies often prefer to drink out of a bowl, if you are worried about dehydration.

Aaahhhh she has been having timothy hay ... with dandelions and marigolds!! Hopefully that's it!

I'll add a bowl of water in her hutch as well as the drinker (only used the drinker because she came with it) and see if that helps.

Thanks, that's put my mind at rest but I'll still keep a close eye on her.

Jo
