  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I am a newbie to this forum so please be gentle with me

I have bought my first ever rabbit several weeks ago so I am learning all about looking after him and feeding etc

I have noticed that on his droppings there are a few white wiggly worms so I have bought PANACUR wormer for rabbits to hopefully cure it.......................but my dilema is is that when i brought it from PETS AT HOME the bloke said give once daily for first 3 days and then every month but when I got home the instructions state once a day for 9days for preventative regime or once a day for 28days for treatment regime for e.cunicali

What treatment process would you all advise me to give to JUST get rid of the worms?

Thanks for your help in advance

Kieron:love:

my boy had worms i took a sample to my vets as they had actually never seen real worms,

you need to weigh him first then work out the graduations

min of nine days, to do 3 days then every month is silly as like most things immunity will build up otherwise

i did actually do all my buns for the first time for 28 days, then when the same bun got worms again i did them all for 9 days now i only routinely do the one bun twice a year as he is prone to illnesses he has a weaker immune system, than my other buns,

though none of my other buns have ever had worms even his partner has never had them

Thankyou all for your help, soooooo glad I have found this site now seeing as I am a newbie to keeping a rabbit (not sure the feelings mutual from all of you seeing as I will be bombarding u all with questions lol:lol:)

Questions are always welcome here - we all have them!

It wouldn't do any harm of course to pop bunny along to the vets (make sure its a rabbit savvy one - someone on here is sure to know one in your area if you would like a recommendation) for a general health check. You can take along a poop sample and vet can look under the microscope and see exactly what you are dealing with. He should also advise you about vaccinations (myxo & vhd) which you should get done asap, as well as neutering, give the teeth a check and advise about diet.

Welcome by the way
