Wise Old Thumper
just under two weeks ago, was noticed her eyes seemed to be bulging, after an examination teeth ( slight burrs ) , eyes ( one eye had slight discharge ) weight, temp, heart, etc. and because she was still running around like a loon eating drinking fine, was thought best to wait and come back for an xray and posiably dental, well shes still eating just not as much so ive just rang and they want her in today 11:15

what i found a first, is that they want her in for a few hours to make sure shes eating before she goes under GA, is this one of the reasons why you have to take animals in early for there ops??

either way im just wanting some nothing serious vibes for my lil hay munching ( well huge  ) girlie

i cant find the piccies i put up on here, but found her rehome page, forgot i was going to put her with biggles first  she ended up with linus instead, according to this then shes around 5 bless her

good luck for today:wave:
(i always presumed they wanted to make sure they were eating and pooping properly before a ga but that may just be the way i reassure myself:oops:)

Sending vibes!! Really hope it all goes ok.And a hug for a worried Bunny Mummy.....xxxxxx

ok im perturbed now just got in with frosty, no ops today fully booked still getting my head round the phone convo this morning then, as im sure she said bring her in we will do her today

i requested an xray and my vet has told he wont do it as he wont really see much ??i asked i would of thought you are looking for shadows etc,

but we wont know which teeth are infected as they are all clumped together, ??? im a bit confused, surely it would be ok just to see if anything is abnormal then investigate further??
he reconmended if i really want to have her xrayed to go to maidstone (an hours drive away,) ive no problem in going to maidstone ( theres a bunny specialist who was on here from maidstone trying to find if its him ) if i have too. but it would be a long stressfull trip. just i thought an xray is an xray isnt it ??? no matter how its done ?

i mean he looked at her teeth, noticed more staining on her chin, looked in her eyes, poked around with them basically and saw nothing abnormal to cause the bulging, i mean it isnt all the time, it does cause like the white corner or 3rd eyelid as i call it to pertude more though

because of the easter break they are fully booked, so dental is tues, ive got her at mine now, vets pretty such she has nothing that will pass on to other buns, so i can monitor more, she drinking out of a bowl fine and eating hay, she lost 2grams in under two weeks, so not a worry on weight, i'm still not happy, but im not sure really on what else to do :?

My vet told me that he wouldn't want to do x-rays for Daisy either, unless he was looking for something specific. He wants me to take Daisy to FHB for more diagnostics. Perhaps therefore, non-rabbit specialist vets usually do recommend a referral for x-rays?

Sending loads of vibes to lovely Frosty.

Several factors affect the detail which is shown on an XR from the type & age of machine used, to accurate positioning of the subject, & the radiographer's skill & experience.

I discussed future issues of tooth roots growing through the boney floor of the eye socket recently. There are other totally different causes of bulging eyes. I think you need a good rabbit vet here.
With every good wish. Fingers crossed.
Please let us know how you get on.

well she was booked for tues for her dental, but after me having her at mine in my bedroom, i was able to monitor her very closely, i wasn't happy and though she deffinatly need treatment sooner, so she was done today and i got X rays done too

for the first 12 hours at mine we had no poos so i decided to self medicate night before ( not something id reconmend for others, always ring a vet first ) but she seems very uncomfortable so i thought at least some metacam would take the edge off, it did she perked a little and drank and ate lots more and produced lots of poos though not tiny were not her normal size,
rang vets first thing they took her,

vet did her dental, and did 2 xrays, her found no obvious evidence of infection, no abesses, etc, I had a good look too, I was looking for shadows etc found none had side and top view, looked pretty clear to me, but im not a vet so obviously not sure really on what to look for, ( but just noseyed online at healthy rabbit xrays and bad ones, frostys do look good. her piccies looked even clearer than the ones ive found online)

only thing he has found is that her lower jaw doesnt move correctly, so at the mo hes come to the conclusion she MAY have arthritic joints in the jaw, she is on a weeks of metacam and marbocyl her lungs were sounding a little raspy maybe due to saliva or food in lungs, her chin was stained before and her paws were wet,

her recovery was good out of GA and she home, alot more perky not 100 % but better than before, though shes got the hump with me through medicated but at least she didnt fight me like she did last night

the only other thing is a CT scan, got to go back in a weeks to check progess, shes going to stay with me in the flat, as she is due her myxi jab but cant have it yet, but i can keep a closer eye on her, and IF worse comes to the worse i want her with me, fingers crossed painkillers and anti biotice work, If it is her ageing jaw, ill not be giving her hard things to chew anymore, shes a big hay eater anyway, fresh willow maybe as thats soft,

big's and carrie are not ammused as they keep seeing open her cage to check shes ok, They must think im giving her treats all the time, i really have to capture biggles expression he's not amused and let me know it too

thanks for reading been a bit a frustrating and worrying few days

How is frosty?

not 100% still, currently in a large dog crate, i was feeling so guilty i had the door open all day yesterday and she wouldnt come out, untill i gave her her meds, then all of a sudden she came alive, hopping round my room and i got on video 3 huge bunny ( throw myself on floor roll over and veg ) she does over dramatise this  Poos are getting bigger too, which im realllllly happy about, shes deffinatly a night time bunny

She seems much better, something is still niggling me a bit, I have appointment next thurs at vet to see if the meds have made any improvement,

her eyes dont seem as bad but she does wash her face an awful lot its looks like shes itching them ( cant say scratching as its not what exacty shes doing ) there isstill the white lid/skin whatever its called in the corner of each eye but not as bad as last week,

i still cant think how 0.5 of metacam can last 24 hours if a bun is in pain :?

I'm wondering on bloods next to check liver etc

thank you for asking :)

shes getting fiestier on her meds which says to me she is improving and bounces around my room without a care in the world, though her breathing isnt 100% when she stops,

one eye looks 100 % better the other still slightly out but no white lid showing now, the only thing is her eyes do sort of pop out ( or stick out ) when shes scared she hates me giving her meds, her antibiotics must taste horrid as the metacam goes down easier, so i give her this second, but shes slowly getting her slight grump attitude back too, shes really not use to lots of people just my mum, so the move and more people i think have unsettled her a bit, though she does seem keen with other bunny smells she sometimes joins in the water drinking in unison thing my lot do one pair starts the other do too now she sometimes joins in :lol:

Im trying to get her to put weight back on, is the recovery stuff a fattener at all?? i only give her some after her meds she eats off a plate, (tried oats they were ignored and i really dont want to try sweet things)

shes eating lots of hay though im not happy with her water intake its quite
low, tried tap and mineral.

Thurs is her check up at the mo i have no cause to rush her in as she has improved, but i think i will request a blood test, ( i think i should of requested this before but i didnt think) i want to see what her levels are like,

At the mo i cant see what else to suggest to the vet, her poos are bigger. less soft poos now shes eating lots more hay,

Re. both eyes popping out, the commonest reason is fear/stress. I'm told it's due to increased BP. If it's improving it sounds as if you are on a winner.

Yes I agree about avoiding sweet things. Jack's Jane recommended fiberplex, as improving the utilization of food but it doesn't sound as if Frosty would be too happy!!
Thumps has surprisingly never been underweight, so I can't advise further really. I'll keep my ears open.

she hasnt lost a huge amount but i am used to her being plumper i can feel her spine but you cant see it, dont how to describe, she was 1.78 2 weeks ago, she lost only 3 grams, but then she went downhill a bit more and i didnt get her weight pre op last thurs,

for a largeish lop 1.78 i dont think is that heavy, but i deffinatly know shes lighter than that, I dont own any scales on which i can weigh her in here, will see on thurs,

Im going to avoid solid hard stuff too now, if her jaw joint is the main problem, the hay i get is long sweet and green so fingers crossed thats enough to keep them exersized without too much stress on the joints, she'll still get her pellets and the odd veggie and herby treat, I mean the vet did say apart from the small spurs, her teeth were in really good condition

That sounds good.
I've just realised that you had no answer to metacam.
Thumper has his main eating time from about 8.00pm, snacks overnight, & eats again in the morning. He rests up in the afternoon. If I give his metacam at about 7.00pm it's at it's maximum effect for his main eating time & also lets him have his morning meals.

I understand that vets like to give the kidneys a rest from metacam during the 24 hour period when ever possible. It's very good for bone & joint pain.
