  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is it possible for rabbits to have cold/flu? My rabbit has been sleeping indoors since November, he has the run of the house and also the back garden, he slept in his hutch at night until november when I felt guilty about putting him out in the cold so he's been sleeping inside since. As the weather has improved recently he's been back out in his hutch at night. Yesterday he got soaked in the rain, although this has happened a few times, he's never been bothered by it, in fact he loved the snow we had over the winter. Today he has been very quiet, quite shivery and not eating much, I thought maybe he was just a bit moody because I put him back in his hutch at night.

I think this is probably a problem with his digestive system (not eating, and lethargy are classic signs). Your bun needs to see a vet tonight.

too much changes in temp are not good for them, dry air from central heating, cold damp air at night not good for them at all,

there has been an increase in indoor buns getting snuffles because of the heating

we are due a cold snap this week i certainly would keep him in now until may earliest now, if he is shaking now ect i would get him checked at the vets as he could have a gut problem too

Dont out him out again! Buns dont generally like to get rained on - they live in burrows!:)

My neighbors bun died form flu - go to the Vet tonight!

Buns dont stop grazing if well!
Nor do they shiver!

Hope Hes ok! Best to keep him in till the weathers warmer & just let him out on warm days for a run about!

Let us know how he gets on! Good vibes!:)
