The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Should we wait till the buns have had their vacs before letting them outside?

Hey!:D

10 week old dwarf lops.....going to get vacs soon - well first one anyway...

I thought to wait till they have had their vacs before taking them outside for their first run on the grass.

Does it matter?

Thought their health would be safer inside till vacs are done.
They are house bunnies at the mo......poss become outside ones my OH is thinking! hee heee....maybe.....they need a palace though! lol!

Many thanks! (Again!)

Mine were out weeks before they had their myxi jab, I don't see it as a problem. I think it depends on the area you are in, whether there are rabbits about or not.

cheers! We are not far from a nature reserve marshland area....but Im residential so dont think buns will be near my house - saying that we do have hedgehogs visiting our garden and we back onto a common - but havent seen any rabbits there.

Do other animals carry myxi?

Cheers! Guess I will have ot make sure they dont go mad on the grass!:):):)

As I understand it, myxi is carried by biting insects, so it's not really relevant whether you are near wild rabbits or not. I wouldn't risk it :?

It's actually the biting insects that spread myxi so being near the marshland area could put your rabbits more at risk than wild rabbits. Mosquitos are one of the big threats.

I personally wouldn't risk having unvaccinated rabbits any longer than absolutely necessary, biting insects could potentially get in the house also. I'm not sure if fleas on hedgehogs could carry myxi but I'm guessing it's possible.

Many thanks guys! :)

Am looking to get them vac asap...just looking for a rabbit friendly & experienced & afforable vet near by...

Will keep them in for now ...

Did not know it was carried by biting insects....interesting...wow!

Cheers! xx:love:

when i first got Alvin and before my vet knew he was a house bunny he recommened i kept him in till two weeks after the jab so that he developed an immunity before being put at risk.

i would keep them in until two weeks after the jabs if it was me :D

where in herts are you? me too!!

Rabbit fleas carry myxi, so wildies are a risk I'm afriad. If I were you I'd defo get them jabbed first. As it's their fist jabs you're supposed to wait another 2 weeks after they've had them (my sis is a vet, so I s'pose she knows what she's talking about) before letting them out.
