why do i feel berties been shoved aside?

purplebumble

Warren Veteran
no matter which vet practice i have used or which vet i have seen....i havent felt happy aboput bertie being left to this...hes still making a heck of a noise with the upper airway.
sigh....i cannot get enough help re nebulisers etc...and feel quite lost.

claire did say an endoscope is the way to find out why his airawys so noisy. but the metacam and piriton have helped..he gets the odd day he can hardly breathe:(

im over the edge with my depression right now which doesnt help:(

how does everyone get the special treatments etc they vets suggest or they suggesty to their vets? if feel i get looked at as one of those annoying people who think they know as much as the vets.....

berties sense of smell is still amazing...which i find odd with him having pasturella but then theres no discharge now cept a bit from, his eyes....he would benefit from another tear duct flush but right now itd be too much for him.

sigh...perhaps its just me:(

I don't think it's you, personally I think some vets are just lacking in people skills. Problem is theres so much wrong info on the net, vets maybe just assume we all look at the wrong info rather than researching the full facts.

sorry if there is a long history to this which I have missed - but have you asked for a referral to a specialist centre?

i think the problem is some just wont admit they dont know. they put thier own selfish ego infront of the proper treatment, and instead of putting the animal first and getting a 2nd opinion they just fob us off

i will never lose this rage i feel for Pearls misdiagnosis and i totally feel your pain. we are helpless because they are the ones who went to vet school.

its doctors too.. only the other day i saw on GMTV it was a mothers determination to get her daughter diagnosed when she was being fobbed off that saved the little girls life.

keep on at em hun, dont stop till they treat your Bertie with the treatment you feel he needs xxxx

First of all, it's not you that's the problem. You are trying to get the best for your bun and you have had the opportunity to see the effects of the treatments (or lack of effects) by close observation over a period of time.

If he's still making airway noises, you haven't caused them, you're trying to get them resolved.

If you can't get enough help re nebulisers, perhaps asking the direct questions to the vet might help.

"I've done this and this with the nebuliser but it doesn't appear to be working, can you help me to understand how to do it better?"

"The piriton and metacam appear to be efective on some days but not all, do you know why that might be?"

They can't object to that.

You're not claiming you know more than the vet. You have a shared objective - to make your bun well. You are concerned enough to seek the correct information.

A reasonable request for a specialist opinion can't just be dismissed. Vets don't know everything about every animal. It would be impossible. It's not a criticism of them to seek advice from an expert. Doctors refer people to specialists when they need to, or call them for advice.

I hope you get the bun the help he needs and that the bun, and you, both feel better soon. If he feels better, you will have that problem removed.

I wonder if Claire's not as sure on your knowledge :?

I'll be in Waterlooville tomorrow, do you want me to text you with the result of my petshop findings?

I have an excellent vets - in fact TWO at the same practice both specialise in exotics and also one specialises in surgery for little ones. BUT even so they were happy to refer me to one of the large Rabbit Referral vets (the Bristol one) when we were all stumped with Damson's intermittent pain. So if my vets that have bunnies referred to them from a large part of East Anglia - can then happily admit that they would welcome a referral to another even more specialist vet - then certainly your vet should be happy to refer or ask for advice.
