Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Yellowish, mucky bum

BinkyToots

New Kit
Hi,

Our rabbit has got this strange, yellowy muck around his bum. We don't think it's urine or poo, it looks almost like a mixture of them both, but he doesn't have runny stools. It goes all the way up around his tail.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it can be? Could it be something to do with scent glands? We've tried bathing him before in an inch or two of warmish water, but it only got rid of it slightly. Recently we noticed that he is going bald in that area. If this persists or gets worse we will take him to the vets, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to what this is or how to make it better. I will try to get a picture up as soon as photobucket lets me register!! :censored:

Thanks, Meg xx

It sounds like urine scald to me. If you check the skin under the yellow fur it'll probably be inflammed and sore.

IMO you need to get him to the Vet tomorrow as *if* it is urine scald he needs treatment both for the sore skin aswell as for the cause of his urinary incontinence. Also, as it is getting warmer now he will be at high risk of flystrike if he is permanently damp and soiled.
