Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. New Kit
Hi guys!, need some advice on our lop honney , noticed this morning she seems to have lost the use of her right side!, not completlly and her head is tilted to the right!, she has always had a lopsided mouth since we had her !, but she seems to have lost her balance!, she is in no discomfort and has a very healthy appitite ! she is about 7- 8 years old .... any ideas ?.... we also have 5 others buns but have separated her incase of anything contageous is this right ?

thanks pete

Hi!

Sorry to hear your bun isn't so good. It sounds very much like EC, which can be serious if not treated, or maybe a stroke. It may also be an inner ear infection although unlikely, if she's eating well. I really do recommend an immediate visit to the vet.

Yes, via spores excreted in an infected Rabbit's urine.

However, there are other possibilities to consider such as a middle ear infection or a CVA (Stroke)

Your Rabbit cannot wait until Monday to see a Vet. Ideally she should be seen tonight

Is she eating, drinking and passing urine and faeces ?

hi!... yes she is quite alert, eating and performing all expected functions correctly ... she has not lost complete use as she can sit up and move about but there is a deffinate tilt to the right!....

Middle ear infection is a real possibility then. If she were mine I'd want to get her to a Vet tonight. Rabbits can deteriorate very quickly.

Update !!!!

Looks like i will always have a lop sided lop !... but as she's eating and alert she should make a healthy recovery !... she has to go back on tues !

thanks to all !... Jack's-jane spot on diagnosis ! Middle ear infection...

thanks

Glad you were able to get her to a vet quickly.

Jane is very often spot on - we all rely on her.

What treatment is bunny receiving?

That's sounds great - and a follow up appointment too, perfect.

So glad bunny is still eating and drinking and enjoying herself. Hope she has a swift recovery. Has she gone back with her friends?

Won't she improve? My headtilt bunny is completely straight and back to normal now, although his tilt wasn't too bad and we caught it early.

iwould think if an inner ear infection that once the infection has cleaered the bun will be back upright i would also trreat bunny with 28days pannacur jsut in case, as i know ec buns sometimes cannot regain their normal bun position after head tilt etc. x

Update!!!

after several vet visits (some of which it was suggested the best would be to put her to sleep) ... bun has for the last couple of days been able to bounce around her big home!... still on anti-bi's but showing vast improvements!, been tossing her food bowl about all day!.... its taken a lot of dedicateded work but she is now on her way back to as good a normal life as possible!.... never give up
