Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny has slightly red/dry patches in ears

Bobbles

New Kit
My four month old rabbit has recently developed red marks in his ears. They look slightly scabby but they are not similar to pictures I have looked at of canker or infections due to ear mites. He also has a slightly runny nose. He is eating well and still binkies and happy flops so his general well being seems fine. I have had a look through his fur to see if I can find dandruff or dry skin which also indicates mites but I haven't found anything. I have another rabbit who lives in the same room although they are in seperate cages and she has nothing wrong with her ears at all. Please can anyone advise as I don't know if it is perhaps the early signs of ear mites and I don't want my bunny to be uncomfortable.

I would take him to the Vet. Examination of his ear canals via an otoscope is probably necessary. Also, a runny nose is abnormal and this requires Veterinary attention too :)

Bun could have an ear infection, best to get it checked out by the vets soon as ear infections can develop into much worse symptoms.
Treatment just now could be simple and cheap.

Thank you both...that's what I thought but i think some people thought I was over reacting and being over-protective mummy!! I will get him booked in for a check up.

Thanks

just got back from the verts. i was right to take him, it is ear mites but it should be cleared up after a 7 day course of drops. glad i didn't wait...thanks for your replies :p

Im glad he got seen at the vets.
