  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Freds rear foot

New Kit
We took fred (1 yr old mini nethis) into vet on Friday as he had injured him back foot jumping off something. The vet checked him over and reckoned nothing was wrong but supplied us with some pain med. After a weekend of feeling sorry for himself, he is now movin around well but still not using his leg as much as he should i.e. flexing etc. But the big worry is it seems to be slightly out of line, his right foot seems to stick out sider than his left, could this be the way he is holding it? or could it be something more sinister?

I would say get him back to the vets. I've never heard of this, except in a fracture. How bunny savvy is your vet? You really don't want to leave it in case it's broken - it might heal in the wrong place and leave him with massive problems. Good luck, and keep us updated.

It depends which vet we get... We are planning to take him back tomorrow, just wanted advice from people on forum before we go in!

You're allowed to ask to see whichever vet you like - you are paying after all, and deserve the best. Fingers crossed for you.

Tbh, I think any vet (not just rabbit savvy ones) should be able to deal with sprains, fractures etc. My vet uses very similar procedures for rabbit fractures as they do for cats.

It's definitely worth getting it checked again - it could just still be very sore and Fred needs more pain relief or it could be a fracture that's been missed.

Only just seen this, X-rays would be a good idea to determine if there are any damaged bones.

I hope he is OK, keep us updated.
