does anyone go to south beech vets? ESSEX

crazy daisy

Warren Scout
Hi ive booked my bunny in at south beech for a dental on Monday. The thing that i really cant make it i know its sounds awful but i cant get out of work and my oh has got a days work that he cant really turn down. Im off tues and weds so i was gona book her in on tues morning but their bunny specialist is gona be on hol for 2 weeks from tues. So what i wanted to know is who else is good with rabbits at south beech. Would be very grateful if anyone can help me. Thanks :)

I stopped going to South Beech, after Alex Maute left. They tend to have one vet with an interest in small animals only. The others are just regular vets (and actually none is a specialist). So, if you have been recommended to see a particular vet and they are on holiday, I'd only see one of the others if it's an emergency, personally.

Thanks Sarah. I dont know what to do now  I took Daisy to Medivet last week because her poos were very small thought her tummy felt abit hard, the vet there said her teeth should be fine (she wasnt eating hay) as she only had a dental 4 weeks ago but never actually looked in her mouth  He did say though that she had lumps along her jaw and could have overgrown tooth roots which is why i wanted to book her in at South Beech because i thought they had a bunny specialist now i dont know where to go. Is there any vet in Southend area that you could recommend? Thanks.

was she booked in to see Laurel? I wouldnt recommend anybody but her at South Beech, the other vets are not as good, bu Laurel is fantastic. She dealth with my rabbit for 6 months and operated on his hock twice, sadly he died but if it wasnt for South Beech he wouldnt have had a chance.

Hiya Missysj. Im not sure the receptionist gave me an appointment for monday and when i said could i have one for tues instead she just said that the specialist will be on hol from tues for 2 weeks. Do you have any experience of overgrown tooth roots with your buns? is it a complicated problem? Im worried where to take her now as i dont drive?

hmmm. cant you take her the day before and have her stay over night? thats what i had to do once with Peanut, because were in Maldon so South Beech is a bit of a trek for us too, and they were fine with is.

Apologies to confuse you. All I'm saying is that they aren't specialists, they just have a vet with a special interest in small animals, albeit that they do take referrals from other vets. They don't claim to be specialists either - I've heard the receptionists say it on the phone many times.

The receptionists there are fantastic and always suggest you see the right vet for your type of animal. I agree with Missysj - you don't really want to see any other vet if you can help it, ie if not an emergency.

Yes, I've done that there too.

Could you take her first thing when they open (maybe go into work late, say you missed your bus ) and leave her with them until you can pick her up tomorrow night?

One of my buns was diagnosed with overgrown tooth roots over 2 years ago and it is "managed" by regular dentals. He is a happy bunny and eats well (he is not a hay eater). They only way to tell the extent of the roots is by X-ray which I would suggest you ask your vet to do.

Good luck.

Not sure if they would admit her tonight as its a sunday and plus i cant get there tonight or get her picked up tomorrow. Think im gona have to try another vet as she is away for 2 weeks and i cant wait that long. Thanks alot for all your replies. x

You could always go there for a 2nd opinion if you aren't happy with the other vet. They are always happy to do that at South Beech, and would request the notes etc.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

U/D found a vet

I took Daisy to another vet that i had been to before, shes there at the mo :( and im impressed with the vet. Ive seen her before and she managed to look at Daisy without her trying to climb the walls which is a first for any vet ive seen!
The vet is going to xray to check her roots but seems to think the problem is her left lower molar that is really overgrown and is overlapping her top molar. She only had a dental 5 weeks ago so im wondering if the other practice didnt burr it back enough , i wasnt very happy with them anyway.
So now im just trying to get ocupied until i get her home :).

Always a plus!!

Where did you take her? I have cloudy booked in with Medivet in Thorpe Bay. Wanted to go to the southend one as they have a rabbit specialist, but they said I had to go to Thorpe Bay as it is closer even though I live in town.

Hiya Rachybun i took her to the leigh medivet down leigham court drive, she saw Lana who only works at that branch. I dont see why you have to be limited to what branch you go to, ive taken them to the 24hr one before aswell, but i was impressed with Lana. Maybe give them a ring and see if you can change it. The number for the Leigh branch is 01702 476404 if you need it! They do ops and xrays etc at the Leigh one aswell. Good luck what is cloudy going in for?

Nothing big, Just his VHD and nails. I need to keep an eye on his teeth though just in case so gonna get them to check that out.

Thanks Missysj i wil do! Its the waiting that i dont like :(. Rachybunny hope you get on ok :)

Oh i know, my bridge bunny peanut had 3 operations, my Jelly has had a dental and stasis 3 times, i have got so used to the waiting but it doesnt make it any easier each time!

Thanks, And let me know how you get on. I will stick with this apointment for now just to try them out and if they are pants I'll tell them to move me to Leigh :D

Just got to try and get him in his box now:(

Good luck! I had to resort to pellets cos she knew where she was going!! Im used to the feeling, my bridge bun Gizmo had about 5 dentals stayed in overnight 3 times and had a tumor , and since sept Daisy has been spayed, had an abcess, bad case of statsis, eye infection and this is her 3 rd dental  (just mentally adding up vets bills )
