  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My aunties rabbit is very poorly she has been to the vets and had antibiotics and other medications to take home with her. The rabbit is sneezing and does not look at all well. The rabbit lives with a guinea pig ( i know its frowned upon and i have told her but she wouldnt listen) the vet has told my auntie to bring bun indoors which leaves the guinea pig on his own. My auntie dosnt think bun will last the night as she is so ill :( She wants me to have the guinea pig she says he is very healthy and couldnt catch him to take him to the vets. The rabbit has i think my auntie said strep something, can this be passed onto guinea pigs?, i am willing to have him but dont want him infecting my guineas and rabbit. I do have a cage i could isolate him in on his own but he would need to live in my shed with the others. Advice very gratefull.

I'm sorry but I don't know the answer. I think I'd ring the vet where the rabbit went and ask their advice. They'll know exactly what's wrong with the bunny and should be able to tell you if the piggie would be affected too.

Thanks unfortunately poor Scarlett the rabbit had to be rushed back to the vets as she was screaming, she died whilst waiting to be seen  The vet said to my auntie that it would not have been passed onto the guinea pig! She now desparately want me to have him but i dont want to spread anything to my pigs or rabbit. Ive told her i will think about it and let her know.
