  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

gungy eyes

Crystal butterfly

Warren Veteran
just cleaned the rabbits out and ive noticed that the lip around Crystals eye (sorry not sure what you call it) is red in colour i checked her other eye and its the same only its gungy but not stuck together.

shes obviously going to the vets i just want to know if this sounds like an eye infection or Myxi? she is vaccinated but i only vaccinate yearly not 6 monthly :? I had a rabbit with a sore eye before but it was very watery and crystals isnt :? and with it being both eyes is making me feel abit :?

Unfortunately it could be the start of myxi - vaccinated or not it's always a danger. Have you seen any wildies with it round your area recently? IMO it's always worth having them jabbed 6 monthly anyway, just to minimise the risk.

It could be her teeth I suppose. Ginger's left eye always gets bad again when he needs a dental. I'm suprised it's not watering though in that case. Other than that all I can think of is an eye infection, or a temporary soreness caused by a piece of hay perhaps?

Try not to think the worst before you've seen the vet as this could very possibly just be an eye infection. Let us know what your vet says xx
