Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

weird gurgling noises?

Sukibus

Young Bun
Was playing with Hoy tonight when I noticed that her stomach was making some weird gurgling noises. I have not fed her anything new recently, only a small portion of pellets in the morning and unlimited hay throughout the day so I don't know why anything would be wrong with her stomach. I've heard that rumbling is a symptom of G.I STASIS so I'm really worried.

Any advice people??

Had she just had a drink of water? I'm think I've read on here before (somewhere, ages ago) that rabbits can sometimes have a gurgling stomachs when they've just had a drink, and that it's normal in that context...:?

But I'm not certain, does she have any other symptoms?

edit: I couldn't find the thread I read, but I did read a more recent one from this year which said that it's normal while a bun is drinking if that helps at all.

I've heard this occasioanlly in Oz as well. He's completely fine. It could just be that some buns have a louder digestive system than others? Or the just have had a drink factor as well. Are there any other symptoms worrying you? Or is the gurgling the main one?

Jims has a noisy tum sometimes as well, it could just be the gut digesting. Just keep an eye on him and if it gets worse or continuous then maybe a call to the vet would be in order.

Hey, thanks people for all your replies. Her tummy has stopped rumbling, I think it was because of the water. Silly me!
