lapinject-very pleased

bunny mad lisa

Mama Doe
I have always had cyclap vhd vacs for my bunnies for the past 10 years but after reading and experiencing side effects i decided to give lapinject ago. i had the first 2 buns done last week and there was no side effects what so ever..they weren't even a little off colour. i will be getting the rest of my buns done with it and would recomend it. My vet had to order it in for me but was happy to do so.

Mine have had lapinject for the past two years, with no side effects. It takes the worry away a little.

My boys didn't have any problems with Cylap for 5 years, but last year they both got the limp really badly, and were generally unwell for days. That was how I stumbled across RU! It's lapinject from now on.

I will ask my vets if they will order it aswell I think, i keep reading threads about cylap and someone even posted the actual data sheet which shows it as having side effects. Hopefully they will be flexible and not financially or contractually obliged to use Cylap:?

I sent my vet an email with a link to the data sheet and put the case for lapinject as the choice of 'rabbit specialist vets' and he ordered it in for me

My two had their VHD last week with no side effects - such a relief after Daisy's horrendous experiences last year :D

i'm hoping i can convince my vet to use lapinject this time (when i've asked before i've been told that they have never experienced any problems with cylap...no, its us bunny mummies who have the problems and worry with a bun that seems 'not quite right' for days afterwards:?)

If it helps, this is what I emailed to my vet

There has been concern among rabbit owners over the side effects of Cylap for some time, and it now appears that its data sheet information has been changed to reflect the growing evidence of its adverse effects. The new information from the National Office of Animal Health states that "50% of animals will show palpable reactions" in the form of swelling, redness and hair loss, as well as pyrexia and forelimb lameness. The data sheet entry can be found here:

I would be very grateful if you could source Lapinject for me, which I believe is increasingly replacing Cylap as the first choice of VHD vaccine among many exotics/rabbit specialist vets. I understand the drawback to Lapinject is that the multiple dose bottle must be used within a few hours of opening, but I am prepared to pay for all the doses to cover the wastage.

I was charged £33 to vaccinate both of mine, including the unused doses in the bottle :)

thanks for that:D

my 2 coincide for myxi but they're 6 months apart for vhd.....33 quid per bun - ouch! they are on my vets health plan so boosters and 6 monthly health checks are covered. we have myxi jabs on saturday so i'll mention the lapinject for eric's next appt (doubt that one would be free - unless i can convince them to change it for everybun!)

After my terrible experience with Cylap I now insist on Lapinject, with no side effects apart from small bare areas so far, I pay just under £10 per dose, regardless of whether that's 5 rabbits (i.e. using the whole bottle) or just the one.
