  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gave my first sub-cuts - managed

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
was taught how to give sub-cuts this morning as Damson still struggling and vets closed for weekend. gave 90mls just now and managed it fine - don't know who was most nervous me, steve (OH) or Damson!

It must have worked to re-hydrate him as 5 mins later he peed on Steve's lap. Steve didn't actually notice until I pointed it out - he claims he just thought it was the spreading warmth of the hot water bottle he was holding Damson on:oops::oops::lol::lol::lol:

90mls in one go

Is Damson a big Bunny ?

I know it seems a lot - he is only 2kg - but our long term experience with him is that he literally soaks up fluids like a sponge. I recall that once they gave him his 'standard' dose saying it would last 24hrs - then 2 hrs later gave it to him again.

Not sure whether this is linked to the kidney stone.

He must still have been thirsty as he has now started to drink voluntarily (from a saucer) as well!

Damson the Sponge Bunneh !!

Now making HUGE LOUD gurgling noises but looking much better than he was, and even eating.

Pood some small slimy pellets. Am giving metaclop and infacol

Suspect food had solidified in stomach after giving bupronorphine last night for kidney pain - this caused his stomach to completely stop. He is very sensitive to bup. despite having excellent blood/urea readings.

he's just gobbled up another 15mls of ORAl fluids - sucking at the syringe end! I told him he was 'sponge bunneh'!!
