is anyone watching?wild rabbits that recovered from myxi are being released back into the wild.i thought they never recovered?

if a wild rabbit comes into an animal hospital, they are usually put to sleep because they usually have no hope, although some hospitals do fight but they rarely survive.

I had all five of my buns catch myxi (am ashamed to say I didn't understand how myxi was transmitted and hadn't got them vaccinated). I nursed them through the myxi but it was a real struggle and the vet was thinking of charging me rent as I was there so much, but two of them had to be PTS later that year and I think the myxi weakened their immune system.

I still have the other three - now vaccinated religiously every six months - so bunnies can survive myxi but it was a horrible, horrible, time and I still feel incredibly guilty.

This wildlife hospital said it had high sucess with getting them better and re releasing:)

were i was living in london the national park nearby, culls wild buns that have caught myxi, he has noticed over the years, recoveries and when he goes to clear up its mainly old buns hes picking up, the group over the years has been growing bigger and bigger each year, the virus is no longer wiping out the whole group,

I made out surely you put the myxo down in the first place, he said no, they cull by shooting as its quicker, he wouldnt wish the suffering of any animal, hes fully aware what myxi does

I saw it (only cos I was laid up in bed after being kicked badly in the chest by one of our naughty ponies yesterday!).

Sometimes there is a really high success rate with wild myxi buns. Sadly last year was really bad (as we found out). We follow St Tigs nursing regime and medication and it is very good. They have very upto date information on lots of wildlife treatment as they are the biggest wildlife hospital in the U.K.

We also speak to another lady who specialises in treating myxi wildies so it isn't always a death sentence and there are people out there treating myxi wildies every year. However the treatment is very intensive and often heartbreaking.

Was lovely to see the little survivors hurtling off. Like Les said in the footage - you always wonder what happens to all the wild animals you release.
