Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Homer's leg - u/d 24/02

bunny babe

Wise Old Thumper
We took this photo when Homer was sat down earlier. His left hind leg is slightly flopped out to the left (usually they are both symetrical). He is hopping around OK on it. I noticed this about a week ago but just thought he was sitting strange. The vet could not see anything on the X-rays, any idea why it could have started to go like this? Could it be muscle issue?

We are going to take this photo to show the vet on Weds as he was sat OK while he was there

Is it definately a problem with his leg? Could it ba a problem with his spine or has that also been ruled out with x-rays?

The vet did say that there were a couple of discs (or was it vertabrae?) out slightly. Would that cause this? The vet felt him all round there but he did not react as if there was any pain in that area.

Its quite possible. As he relaxes his back it may slightly turn his body to one side.

Ella was the same and she had a similar problem.

Just an update......I sent o/h to the vet with a list of symptoms, photograph and questions (not sure if he got them out:lol:) and a stool sample as it was very squishy....

The vet had a good chat to him and tried to explain things. He still does not have anything conclusive on his bloods. He is sending the poop sample off for analysis.

With regards to his spine, he said that there are a couple of "compressed discs" but can't see the full extent from the X-ray. He said an MRI scan would show more. o/h did say he checked all this very thoroughly and pressed on his spine and Homer did not show any sign of discomfort. He also checked all round his legs. He goes back again in 2 weeks.

In himself, Homer is eating well and back to hopping round the garden. Katy was pleased to have him back and just keeps licking him.

 Hi Jane. He is a lot better in himself thank you, he did try to mount Katy on Monday  so I guess his back can't be that bad.

I am already looking to see if they have bunny chiropractors.

We are keeping a very close eye on him still.
