Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When to introduce new bunnies outside

When is it a good time or at what age should a new little bunny be introduced outside bearing in mind the weather etc

How young is your bunny? I'd say to wait until he/she is three months old or so before you start putting them out for long periods of time, then you can be sure it will have a decent enough fur coat if the weather turns when you're not around. Baby bunnies can often get upset tummies from eating too much grass too - but you can put them out for maybe an hour at a time and keep an eye on them. Gradually increase the time they spend out there over a few weeks. If your bunny hasn't ever had grass before, give them a little bit in their cage/hutch everyday for a few days before you put them outside just to help their tummies get used to it.

If it's nice and sunny/dry outside, bunny will be probably be fine :) Watch out for wet grass though as it may give bunny the runs and will make his/her feet and belly all wet and he/she may get a chill.

Just use your common sense really - if you look out the window and think you wouldn't want to be out there, don't put the bunny out!

Definitely not at this time of year. Bunnies can be outside from birth as long as they have always lived outside. Indoor buns have to be introduced in warmish weather as they don't grow a thick winter coat when they live inside, a few weeks into spring is a good time. Even in warm weather they need a good hutch and run with place to shelter in case the weather turns suddenly. Sun one minute, pouring rain the next
