Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

kidney stone removal?

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
We are pretty certain from x-rays that Damson has a kidney stone in his right kidney (renal pelvic area). We are taking him to Bristol for a full scan and discussion about options.

However I wondered if anyone on here has a rabbit that either had a kidney stone removed or a whole kidney removed?

Damson is over 8 years BUT is as fit as a fiddle otherwise - one of the wild looking agouti buns that are wiry and fit. However he has increasingly frequent episodes of acute pain with the stone so we need to do something about it.

Poor Damson

No experience with any of my Buns but my Vet has removed a kidney from a Bun. The Bun made a good recovery.
He was much younger than Damson though.

I'm sorry to hear about Damson. I just want to wish him every success with his operation.
I'm sure most people know that kidney stones are incredibly painful in humans so I'm sure that accounts for his gut issues poor wee soul.
