Not eating the caecotrophs

Hi, Binky my house rabbit definitely does not have diarahea, we thought he had so he had strict hay and little pellets regine, however after a week of this we have noticed that it is not diarahea but he is sporadically not eating all his caecotrophs. We went to the vet yesterday who gave hime an injection and told us to feed him pineapple juice, as he thought he may have a furball as Binky is moulting. He is well in every other respect. This does not seem to have helped, this morning as still more soft poo trodden into the floor. He also not keen on pineapple juice so we have watered down version in his bottle which he will drink. Smudge on the other hand who is well loves the pineapple!

Any more suggestions we are desperate to get him 100%. Thank you.

Did the Vet check your Rabbit's teeth ?
Also, did Vet check for any signs of spinal discomfort.

Is your Rabbit overweight?

How much pellet feed does he have?

Does he eat alot of hay?

Personally I dont think Pineapple Juice is appropriate as it contains alot of sugar which will just add to the problem of excess caecotrophs. Also, unless the juice is 100% fresh (ie not from a carton etc) then it is pointless giving it. The enzyme thought to be of use for breaking down 'furballs' (bromelain) is destroyed during processing.

I would prefer to give Fibreplex to a Rabbit who was not eating their caecotrophs (as long as other physical problems have been excluded).
Fibreplex is a palatable paste containing pro and prebiotics along with added fibre. All of which can help establish healthy flora in the caecum (the 'caecotroph factory'). This in turn should help with GI tract motility and make the caecotrophs taste better.

Did the Vet check your Rabbit's teeth ? Yes
Also, did Vet check for any signs of spinal discomfort. He checked him all over his tummy, temperature we told him that it might be spinal.

Is your Rabbit overweight? No, normally he is around 1.8 - 1.95 and this time he was 1.75 but he has just moulted.

Quick update and advise needed

Binky seems better with only the occasional squashed toilet on the paper. He has taken well to a probiotic drink, but I am not sure how long to leave him on it, also Smudge who is well has taken to drinking it as well, is this okay.

Have bought the pre and pro biotic Fibreplex as suggested but is it necessary if Binky is almost back to normal. I tried it and he doesnt seem to like the taste. Also it seems from the labe that you are only meant to feed it to them for one to two days.

Confused as how best to proceed? Thank you
