Sooty has refused to eat anything since last night - wouldnt touch her pellets last night or her veg this morning  Both these things her and oreo are usually going mad for as soon as I open the door, Sooty is just sat in the corner :cry:

Appointment at 10.30 - wish me luck! Its not too early is it to be taking her to the vets is it? After one night of not eating - I just know shes not herself! I cant tempt her with anything - and that is soooooo unlike my Sooty!

Is there anyway you could get him there quicker?

Sorry to hear he is unwell, have you dealt with stasis before? I know allot of people use Infacol on hear, but I am not experienced enough to even try, I would get mine to a vet as soon as they refuse food.

Hope all goes well at the vet.

I dont think its too soon to be taking her. You know your buns and if you know somethings not right, then you're doing the right thing taking her to get her checked over.

**Sending lots of eating vibes for Sooty**

xx

I think you've done what you should . Follow your instinct.:) Sending vibes for a speedy recovery.

Update

I have just got back and they have kept her in, she has got spurs on her back teeth which are pushing into her cheek :cry: She is going to have her dental today and i have to ring at lunchtime..

She is a big hay eater - scoffs more hay than any of my buns - so just bad luck i suppose :cry:

I actually cried when I got back in the car  as I didnt expect to leave her there! and she was absolutely fine up until last night!

Do I have to ask for anything when I pick her up? she had metacam and something else on her sheet?

Poor Sooty :( I know how you feel about having to leave her there **HUGS** I was the same with Jose, I made it all the way home and then just broke down in floods of tears when I walked through the door.

How you feeling now? xx

Im ok now - thanks for asking, just waiting to hear to see if shes ok now :? Really worried, and wondering if it will be a regular thing

Hi, I have got Sooty home now - shes still feeling sorry for herself - and not interested in food, the vets gave me some recovery food to syringe tonight if she hasnt eaten by herself. When I got back Oreo had escaped form the pen - not sure how but I have a feeling I may have left the lid slightly off in the rush to get Sooty in the carrier and to the vets. He was fine - probably had a whale of a time in the bun room!! i was a bit worried they would start fighting as she had been away but he has been very sweet since Sooty got back, snuggling up to her and licking her head constantly

Those of you with Dental buns - I have a few questions..
How often do they need doing? I know it varies from bun to bun but just for a rough idea.
How much does it cost you? - it cost me £95 today  is that alot? of course i will keep paying but just worried!
Does pet insurance pay out for dentals? I have got insurance but think I have read before that it doesnt cover dentals.
Should she have pain relief?

thanks

Aww poor Sooty, hope shes munching soon.

With regards to dental buns, I have a few, Joseph and Maddie have both gone 10 months since their last one, Lolly has been 6 months since she had one and Lionel 3 months.

It costs me £75 each time, I have spent £300 odd at the vets in the last week

I don't believe insurance pays out for dentals but give them a ring.

My vet usually gives them a long acting paint killer and tells me only to give them more metacam the next day if they are not eating/in pain etc, did you ask you vet about it?

 Spike has no front teeth and needs a dental on his wonky back ones. The frequency was over a year but the last has only lasted a couple of months, an example of like you said, how it varies.

cost -that seems the same as mine for one requiring anaesthetic (conscious ones (or just a whiff of gas)have been cheaper when Spike has co-operated).

Pet insurance - will not pay for existing problems so it depends when you took out the insurance and yes, not all pay out for dentals.

Pain relief? Yes initially, but the period of time is upto the individual - Spike is now on it permanently.

good luck.

I hope she is eating asap:love:

To your questions, what are you feeding them on? As I am certain you know, they need lots and lots of hay to wear their teeth down. One trick I have found with Feegal is to give him his fresh hay and ready-grass an hour before his fresh and pellets (half an egg cup twice a day).

I think my last dental cost about £60 but it varies from vet to vet. Is your vet very rabbit savvy? Have you had a dental bun before?

Sally insurance does not cover dentals but luckily Feegals does. They don't insure rabbits now though, I think the insurance company thought they could make a quick buck out of rabbits, and then realised how wrong they were:lol:

And lastly, yes she should be on pain relief. Is she on any now? Have you seen the clamp they use to keep the mouth open? That has got to be uncomfortable afterwards.

Nose rubs for her from me. Glad the bond didn't break between them. My vet lets Sally stay in with Feegal:)

 hancy, thanks for your post, my replies in red :D

yes Sooty is a very good hay eater, they have veggies in the morning, hay all day and a handful of pellets at night. Everytime I see her she is munching on hay (up until yesterday)!

Yes my vet is a good rabbit savvy vet and I have every faith in them - they have been good so far! I have never had a dental bun before - I didnt think it was her teeth I thought it was her tummy, so was quite shocked!

I rang the insurance company just in case but it doesnt cover dentals

She hasnt got any pain relief, I will ring in the morning if she still isnt eating - I didnt pick her up unfortunately, my OH had to as I got stuck at work. they did give her some before she left though.

Sooty says thanks for the nose rubs - she has got lots today as she scared her mummy so much! I was going to take oreo with me but didnt in the end, it was bad enough trying to catch one to go in the carrier

Sounds like all bases are covered. Welcome to the Dental Bunny Mummy club:(

I know about trying to catch two to put in the carrier. Id be stuffed if I was on my own:lol: One goes in the other comes out etc...

I also pay about £95 for a top exotics bunny specialist.
In return, I get lower risk anaesthesia. 99% of the time I see the same vet who knows him backwards - especially his response to drugs.
She also prescribes pain relief on discharge, although his mouth is never cut. This is because the dental can stretch the jaw muscles slightly & cause a bit of discomfort. Remember Sooty's mouth will continue to be uncomfortable until the sores heal.

I think Sooty did have tummy problems but the reason was that it was painful to eat enough to keep his gut moving, & pain slows down the gut.

I know Thumps needs a dental by subtle changes in his eating & poops.
Perhaps a worse case scenario but he needs tiny molar spikes treated every 4-6 weeks. His teeth don't meet properly so they can't wear down.

There are buns on here that go 6 months between dentals, & there are buns that have 2-3 dentals & don't need another for years & years. There are buns that need dentals less frequently as time goes on.

You've had some really good advice on from other posts.
Everything crossed for a rapid recovery & hoping that Sooty's teeth are fine for a long time.

 Apparantly Sooty had enough pain relief to last her til tomorrow then if she still isnt eating I have to take her back anyway!

Thats interesting about what you said about her gut as I was positive she had a blockage or something as she kept stretching out and flopping and rubbing her tummy along the floor, just really unusual for her and she kept shifting as if she couldnt get comfortable  I stayed up with her until about 3am giving her rubs etc
Hopefully shes sorted out now and i know what to look out for in future - this just came totally out of the blue - one day she was eating everything under the sun and the next nothing! Bunnuhs huh - know how to make us worry!
